The programs of the North Carolina Medical Society Foundation thrive through grant-funded support from organizations that share our vision for accessible health care for all North Carolinians. Our collaboration with other philanthropic organizations not only provides essential financial support, it gives us an opportunity to expand our vision about what the NCMS Foundation is and what it can become. As stewards of grant funds from other organizations, we are challenged to carefully plan for our future, both programmatically and financially. While remaining connected with other non-profits doing similar work, we consider best practices in our field and thoughtfully evaluate our successes and learn from those experiences that challenge us.
In 1989, the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust awarded $4.5 million to the NCMS Foundation to start the Community Practitioner Program. In 2006, the NCMS Foundation embarked upon a $20 million campaign to raise funds for its Community Practitioner Program in order to secure the future of the program. The campaign began with a generous grant of $10 million from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation. Following their lead were other North Carolina foundations, corporations and NCMS leaders who helped raise an additional $5 million during the campaign’s initial phase. The following organizations have generously supported the Community Practitioner Program:
