The front page of The Duke Endowment webpage succinctly affirms its mission: “The Duke Endowment strengthens communities in North Carolina and South Carolina by nurturing children, promoting health, educating minds and enriching spirits.” This mission embodies the support The Duke Endowment gave to the NCMS Foundation’s Community Practitioner Program. The $600,000 grant was awarded in 2007 and was identified to improve access to health care for uninsured and underinsured populations in rural and economically distressed communities across NC and help maintain an average of 100 primary care providers in various stages of their five-year commitments in the Community Practitioner Program.

The Duke Endowment has awarded over $2.8 billion in grants since its inception in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke. The primary program areas of The Duke Endowment are “Child Care,” “Health Care,” “Higher Education” and “Rural Church.” To learn more about the work of The Duke Endowment, click here.
