About the North Carolina Medical Society Foundation
The mission of the North Carolina Medical Society Foundation (NCMSF) is to improve access to quality health care for all North Carolinians. Using a multi-pronged strategy to address the problems of access, the NCMSF is dedicated to assisting rural communities and underserved, uninsured populations of North Carolina; supporting the study of voluntary community care models; supporting the study of long-term reforms to the health care system; and reducing health care costs without compromising quality of care.
Ensuring a Caring Physician for Every Community
Created in 1989, The Foundation's Community Practitioner Program partners with local communities and other agencies and health care organizations to assist in recruiting talented primary care physicians, physician assistants, and family nurse practitioners by providing grants in return for service in underserved communities. By offering some relief for often tremendous educational debts, the program's grant support encourages health professionals to serve in areas of North Carolina that need them most. Building a Strong Infrastructure for Healthier Communities
A stable health care system is a key factor in improving the overall economic condition of a community. The Foundation assists in studying the health care infrastructure of chronically underserved communities, develops a plan for addressing the community's needs, and links the community with identified resources.
Improving Sustainability of Medical Practices
Practice efficiencies are particularly essential in underserved areas in order to ensure the viability of health care delivery and their retention in the community. Through PractEssentials, the NCMS provides practice management resources to help physicians deliver clinically effective medical care to disadvantaged populations while achieving maximum practice efficiency and productivity. Educating Strong Leaders to Affect Great Change
Long-term impact of the problem of access to care requires system reform. Reform does not come easily and requires leadership of the highest caliber. In partnership with the NCMS, the Foundation has created the NCMS Leadership College to prepare physicians to provide leadership in their communities and in the medical profession.
