Donna Wright, CNM, MSW - Certified Nurse Midwife, Rockingham

Donna Wright is a long way from her native New York, but as far as the babies she's delivered and their mothers are concerned, North Carolina is where she needs to be.

A certified nurse midwife for Richmond OBGYN, Ms. Wright has over 15 years of labor and delivery experience, including attending over 600 births. She currently shares 6,000 patients with two other health care providers in her practice.

"This area is very underserved. I have recently started helping out at the Anson County Health Department where I work as an OB-GYN provider each Thursday," she explains. "There are many Medicaid assisted and uninsured patients in Anson and Richmond Counties."

The CPP has assisted over 300 providers and practices in 130+ communities in 76 North Carolina counties. It is estimated that since its implementation in 1989, these practitioners have provided over $226 million of free or reduced care to the North Carolinians who need it most. In return for their service, providers receive financial assistance to repay their medical education loans.

"The Community Practitioner Program has helped me with my student loans," said Ms. Wright. "I learned about the program through the John Jackson, CEO of Richmond Memorial Hospital and was grateful for the assistance."

It is certain that as her patients grow, they too will be grateful for the assistance.
