 Sixty-three percent of North Carolina counties are considered economically distressed. People living in economically disadvantaged communities are more likely to suffer from chronic disease and the community is less likely to be able to support a stable health care environment. Fifty-two of 100 counties in North Carolina are designated as whole or partial health professional shortage areas. One in seven North Carolinians has limited access to care because they are uninsured, and that number continues to grow.
Creating access to quality health care is not only crucial to improved health for North Carolina's citizens, it is also essential for a community's growth and economic development. None of our health care initiatives can be fully implemented without ongoing financial support. The North Carolina Medical Society Foundation does not receive funding from membership dues but is dependent on contributions and grants to carry on its work. Your gift is vital and has a direct impact on the health of North Carolinians.
