Leadership College Faculty Training Program

Funded by a grant from Physician’s Foundation, the Leadership College Faculty Training program is a new initiative that trains alumni of the Leadership College to serve as faculty for the program.

The North Carolina Medical Society Foundation (NCMSF), in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership, is enhancing NCMSF’s Leadership College so that it can serve as a model program that can be adapted and replicated in other states throughout the country. This initiative involves the training of Leadership College alumni to serve as effective mentors and faculty members for incoming Leadership College Scholars. The vision of this project is to facilitate the transmission of the cumulative clinical, educational, leadership and policy-related wisdom of the more experienced alumni physicians to the “younger” scholars participating in the Leadership College.

This program works in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), a worldwide leader in leadership training and research. The CCL is an educational institution with headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina and campuses in Colorado Springs, San Diego and four overseas locations. CCL is routinely ranked at or near the top of world rankings by Business Week and the Financial Times as a provider of executive education. In 2010, CCL was ranked third in the Financial Times survey of executive programs and has placed in the survey’s overall Top 10 for six straight years. In November 2009, Business Week ranked CCL third in the world for customized executive education programs.

Over the two-year life of the program, the NCMSF will recruit a cohort of twenty Leadership College alumni (alumni) and participants will attend the day and a half Coaching for Greater Effectiveness Training provided by CCL. NCMSF staff will identify the specific faculty role that the alumni physicians will play in the Leadership College curriculum after they receive training as coaches. NCMSF staff will also match each Leadership College alumni with an incoming Leadership College scholar to provide coaching to the as they develop and implement their community-based action learning project.

The first class of five alumni completed their training at CCL in February. Click here to read more about the first class, pictured here.
