Peter Gilmer, MD – Triangle Orthopedics, Roxboro, NC (Person Memorial Hospital)

Dr. Gilmer’s project focuses on developing a process for patients at risk for fragility fracture. Dr. Gilmer’s teram team will implement the “Own The Bone” program at Person Memorial Hospital.  The program will generate the materials for implementation and the team will move ahead quickly.  The program will identify the fragility fracture patients seen either in the ER or admitted to the inpatient service, gather basic information assessing the patient’s bone health, register that patient with the data bank, generate patient education materials, order some evaluation test, and inform by letter the PCP with steps taken. Due to changes in his practice environment, Dr Gilmer has not had the time to fully commit to the program but has continued with the didactic component as well as working with the QI staff in his hospital to sponsor a project to initiate the national “Own The Bone” program to identify fragility fractures.
